This work focuses on precisely the group of people that is training to become a teacher, it specifically focuses on people that are studying the Bachelor Degree in in Primary Education in one of the Catalan universities. We present the results that we have obtained when we asked why they wanted to be teachers and what makes a good teacher, taking into account some considerations for teacher training at the university today are reflected. METHOD. Quantitative methodology is used by a self-administered questionnaire in a representative sample recoded with open questions afterwards. RESULTS. From investigations increased incidence, we have built three main categories. The first one is the personal and authentic teacher, that is the teacher that has an influence on his students because of his character or personality; the second one is the teacher transmitter of stories, and he is understood as the teacher that explains the lessons in a such way that the lesson is memorable; and the third one is teacher motivator for learning, the teacher that is able to organize spaces and times where students get to learn with some ease and enthusiasm. The findings offer important differences between these categories, and according to variables such as the academic year students enrolled, gender and type of university where they study. DISCUSSION. The results extol above all the personal and authentic teacher, which leaves a mark on his character or way of being. This evidence, along with others that complement, can offer some considerations for the university training of future teachers.
