Abstract

This article refers to repercussions of the motivational climate generated in physical education classes on goal orientation, intrinsic motivation and disruptive behaviour in young people. The sample was made up of students from a public school (N=108), with an average age of 11,3 years. Over a period of 4 weeks (12 sessions), a teacher, who was suitable trained, intervened in the motivational climate by adapting TARGET strategies (Epstein 1988, 1989; Treasure, 1993; Treasure and Roberts, 1995; Cecchini, González, Carmona, Arruza, Escartí and Balagué, 2001). The mastery climate (N=54) was associated with task orientation, enjoyment, effort and perceived competence, while the execution climate (N=54) was related to ego orientation, anxiety, disinterest- passivity, aggressive behaviour and violation of rules in physical education classes. To conclude, the obtained results are interpreted.
