Abstract

Values are a current affair and everybody, at popular and scientific levels, thinks and expresses their opinion about it. However, values are a extremely complex subject which can be approached from different points of view. It is essential to know the various theoretical positions in the analysis of the concept of value for appropriately thinking and searching over it and for orienting its learning as well. The present article aims to define what values are, according to the analysis and integration of the different approaches. These approaches are: objective/subjective, real/ideal, emotional/rational, universal/relative and collective/individual. They are exposed in a bipolar way in order to show the great dichotomies present in the understanding of values
