Abstract

The digital transformation of graduate education for ubiquitous learning has generated the need for the academic use of the smartphone. Therefore, the objectives of the work were: 1) to characterize the profile of academic use of the smartphone perceived by Ecuadorian graduate students in the field of education from a university on the Coast and one in the Sierra; 2) to compare the results obtained regarding the academic use of the smartphone according to the university of origin. A quantitative methodological approach with non-experimental cross-sectional design was adopted, developing a comparative descriptive-correlational study, applying an adapted version of the "Questionnaire smartphone and University. Student's view", to an incidental sample of 415 students. The results showed a frequent use of the smartphone for academic purposes, using it as a tool for academic management and organization, quick information search, and communication with classmates and teachers, who do not usually motivate its use in the classroom, which is why they express having learned to use it in a self-taught way. The comparative study showed significant differences between the perceptions of the students, highlighting the teacher's encouragement to use the smartphone in practical activities in class and theoretical explanations by those from the Coast region.
