Abstract

The objective of this article is to diffuse the results obtained in an investigation called: «References to Education for Citizenship in the press». In order to accomplish this purpose, a content analysis was carried out in four newspapers: two national ones (ABC and El País) and two from the Valencian Community (Las Provincias and Levante). This content analysis is possible in the first place, thanks to the digital edition of newspapers which currently have documents in digital format and also, offer services such as «Archives» and «Hemeroteques» which are equipped with finders. In second place, there are computer programs like NVIVO.2 that help carry out «automatic» content analysis on line. The importance of carrying out a study about a topic such as this one is because of the current protagonism of said topic in education for citizenship, which, as we have demonstrated in our study, is treated differently depending on the ideology of the newspaper analyzed. We have also demonstrated that the subject is treated more as a political issue than an educational one.
