Abstract

The context of contemporary society is undergoing profound and rapid changes in the areas identified industrial society barely two decades ago, affecting patterns of people and their values, and having an impact on the formation of opinions and on decision-making; increasingly education appears to lie at the heart of hurricane tensions that the entire process of changing social structure entails; at this juncture of uncertainties and insecurities to the new social realities, the centrality of education extends to look beyond the formal education to civic issues and the challenge of living together in public spaces, which are denouncing and modifying the traditional concept, now obsolete, citizenship. These new circumstances highlight the potential for education more linked to be more linked to a concept of public service tied to working in a network, aimed at promoting the attitudes and behavior of an environmentally and socially sustainable society, that promotes cooperation and social participation in all issues, through the formation of responsible citizenship and promotion of peaceful coexistence. We must encourage, through family, civil society organizations, media and new information technologies, analysis and the development of relevant expertise to form a citizenry capable of facing the changes.
