Frequência das aulas de Educação Física e qualidade do sono segundo sexo em estudantes da região de Valparaíso, Chile

Resumo

O número de horas de Educação Física (PEI) poderia estar associado a benefícios na qualidade do sono em adolescentes. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a associação entre a frequência das aulas de EFI e a qualidade do sono em estudantes do ensino médio de escolas da quinta região de Valparaíso. Participaram 286 estudantes (113 mulheres e 173 homens), com idade média de 16,3±2,64 anos (16,0±0,99 mulheres, 16,4±3,29 homens). O questionário Youth Activity Profile, versão para a América Latina (YAP-SL), foi utilizado para determinar a frequência das aulas semanais de Educação Física, enquanto a qualidade subjetiva do sono foi avaliada por meio do Índice de Qualidade do Sono de Pittsburgh (PSQI). 55,8% das mulheres e 62,4% dos homens fazem Educação Física uma vez por semana e os homens têm maior número de aulas de educação física por semana do que as mulheres (p= 0,043; COC = 0,196). No PSQI, os homens apresentam menor pontuação (15,6 pontos) e, portanto, melhor qualidade do sono em comparação às mulheres (19,5 pontos) (p<0,001). Foi observada associação positiva entre o número de aulas semanais de Educação Física e a qualidade do sono dos escolares (p=0,033; β= -0,306). Concluindo, um maior número de aulas de Educação Física está associado a uma melhor qualidade de sono dos alunos, resultados que sugerem a intervenção das autoridades, que, entre outros pontos, aumentam a frequência das aulas de Educação Física no sistema educacional chileno.
