Abstract

Learning Through Integrator Projects (API=Aprenentatge per Projects Integradors) is a didactic strategy considered innovative in the university teaching because it uses a methodology that accommodates itself to autonomy in learning. It places the students in the centre of the educational action, by starting with their implication in learning acquisition, by considering their satisfaction of curiosity and pre-professional interests, and —at the same time— by developing teaching and learning processes that enhance skills and competences typical of professionalizing training. This kind of didactic strategy allows the linking professional experience to theoretical knowledge of the taught subject. These are some of the relevant features of this strategy, completed by student’s individual and group commitment for the whole process, consciousness of the professional environment attached to it, continuous tutoring, and creation of a teaching atmosphere where classroom attitudes and co-operative group work add positive factors to be considered in the university teaching field. This is why, after a four-year period (2001-2002 / 2004-2005) of work with more than 320 students from the Faculty of Pedagogy at the University of Barcelona on the sixth semester of their degree, we have considered this work as a suitable way of showing the descriptive study of implementing API in the university education field.
