Abstract

At this moment, the Spanish University, as those of the European Union, is deeply involved in the convergence process in order to build a European System of Higher Education. This process implies transformations to improve the service this institution gives to society. In summary, it tries to improve the quality and, by it, to reach excellence. Among the transformations that are necessary to carry out stands out the relevant role assigned to the faculty as promoter of students´ learning. To such purpose, tutorship, among its educational functions reaches a momentous role and it tends to become an essential service that the University offers to its students. This implies the need of transforming faculty´s role. In this context, the present work acquires meaning and utility. Its objective consists on knowing and diagnosing —in authentic real situations based on professorship´s perception and faculty´s opinions— the tutorial function performance in the Spanish University and, just in case, on making proposals of improvement. To reach this objective we have planned a transversal research of qualitative type.
