Abstract

If the aim of education is to contribute to the comprehensive and global development of a person,
each pupil should be given the opportunity to develop their full cognitive and personal
potencial.
It is of fundamental importance that the teacher, as the first stage of every teaching and learning
process, knows the emotional competence of the students. Many studies demonstrate this point.
These studies show the importance of emotions and feelings in building knowledge and promoting
personal, social and work-related development.
The research we present in this article reflects the results obtained in a study that makes known
the importance of the emotional competence of the Spanish boys and girls, and children of
immigrant families in the Second Cycle of the Compulsory Secondary Education of Almeria. For
that reason, we are forming and distributing a questionnaire that encompasses the five basic
emotional competences. The data will be analysed by a statistical document (SPSS for Windows
version 12.5) making statistical calculations for percentages and differentials, taking into
account the origin and the culture of the students. Finally, the results will be discussed and
representative conclusions of the study will be made.
