Abstract

The school is a direct witness of the needs that have emerged in recent years and must cope with new challenges, for example, those which are related to the integration of immigrant students and their families. This article focuses on the assessment of one of the modules of «Socio-educational Program for Immigrant Families», developed in various schools in the Autonomous Community of Galicia. This programme was intended, in general, to improve the level of participation of immigrant families in the schools attended by their children, giving them a greater understanding of the culture and society of the host country, as well as of its education system. Specifically, through the investigation we intend to explore to what extent ethnic and cultural origins are a variable to take into account in the design and implementation of strategies to promote the integration of immigrant families in the schools of their sons and daughters. We believe, ultimately, that the study results show the possibilities arising from an adequate pedagogical intervention with immigrant families in the school.
