Abstract

This study analyze the relationships between goal orientation, perception of motivational climate and beliefs of success in physical education classes. A social cognitive approach was employed, based on the relevance of physical education teacher in the development of motivational climate. 199 adolescents students involved in physical education classes participated in the study. Results were obtained via calculation of Structural Equation Modeling. Results shows relationships between ego orientation and perception of ego-involving motivational climate and the belief that deception and Normative ability are the causes of success in physical education classes. Task orientation and perception of task-involving motivational climate are related with the belief that motivation and effort are the causes of success. The implications of these findings in the relevance of motivational climate are discussed in the document.
