Percepção de saúde e exercício entre idosos indonésios: um estudo exploratório sequencial em comunidades rurais javanesas.

Resumo

Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar as percepções de saúde e exercício entre idosos em comunidades rurais javanesas na Indonésia. Através de uma abordagem exploratória sequencial, a pesquisa revela vários níveis de conhecimento sobre saúde e exercícios entre a população rural. Quarenta idosos de três regências diferentes na província de Java Central participaram e preencheram o Questionário Global de Atividade Física (GPAQ). Análise qualitativa adicional foi realizada utilizando 25 amostras das 40 através de um método conveniente. Foi realizada uma entrevista semiestruturada para confirmar os resultados do questionário e explorar sua percepção de saúde e exercício. Apesar das variações, surge uma crença predominante entre os participantes em relação aos importantes benefícios para a saúde associados ao exercício. A análise revela que uma maioria considerável (87,5%) dos participantes cumpre os padrões recomendados pela Organização Mundial de Saúde de >600 METs/semana, principalmente através de atividades físicas relacionadas com o trabalho. No entanto, continua a existir uma disparidade notável na prevalência da actividade física nos tempos livres, particularmente na participação em actividades físicas relacionadas com o desporto. A pontuação cumulativa dos METs provém predominantemente de atividades de trabalho e viagens. O estudo qualitativo revela que ainda são poucas as iniciativas dos idosos para a adoção de um estilo de vida saudável através do desporto e do exercício. Alguns acreditam que os esportes nunca fizeram parte de sua cultura. Para abordar estas conclusões, instamos intervenções estratégicas por parte das partes interessadas para aumentar a consciencialização entre os idosos rurais sobre a importância do desporto e do exercício na melhoria do bem-estar geral. Isto envolve a implementação de programas de educação para a saúde e a facilitação de actividades de exercício colectivo a nível da aldeia.
