Abstract

This article topic is focused on today’s debate on the educative model that, more specifically, raises the Organic Law of Education (LOE) about religion in the school and on Islamic Religion Teaching (IRT). Two different positions show up in this debate: one supporting a kind of laicism respectful with religious diversity, and another lay movement to take religion out of the school. In spite of the legal right of muslim community, established from 1992 in the Agreements of Cooperation between the State and the Islamic Commission of Spain, it will be necessary to wait till 2005 for I.R.T. classes to become effective in some Spanish Autonomous Communities territories. After present situation analysis of the subject and the questions related to the educational aspects, it is necessary to make an effort to integrate education of Islam not only in the Obligatory Education and Baccalaureate, but also in the curricula of further education to cover the emptiness of teacher’s training on this subject.
