Abstract

The ecclesiastical hierarchy adherence to the “National Rise” was a right and justified decision, by considering the persecutory situation created by the republican Government. The regime consecration derived into a confessional State and education, thus being impossible to exist any educative model different from the catholic one. With this aim, the mass media censorship and sifting throughout contents, teachers, libraries and names of educative centers was absolute, thus making religious tolerance impossible. The values of religion and mother country formed an indissoluble unit. The 1978 Constitution breaks Spain´s European isolation, cancels confessionality and opens up new horizons of democracy and, by those, plurality and freedom. Education, that always follows the steps of policy, gave up being confessional, restoring freedom of education and plurality of organizations. Religion and mother country stopped being supreme values, becoming undervalued by a big part of today ´s Spanish society. This strong social and educative axiological change, in so short decades, has caused a lack of understanding between parents and children, older and young, denominated «spacing or generational confrontation». It makes dialogue and tolerance essential values for nowadays coexistence.
