Efeitos do Kundalini Yoga na aptidão cardiorrespiratória e na qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde em estudantes universitários fisicamente inativos: um ensaio clínico randomizado

Resumo

A inatividade física e o comportamento sedentário são fatores de risco significativos para doenças como doenças cardiovasculares, câncer e distúrbios de saúde mental. Kundalini Yoga (KY) é reconhecido pelo seu potencial para melhorar a saúde física e mental.
Objetivo: Avaliar os efeitos de um programa de KY de 6 semanas na aptidão cardiorrespiratória (ACR) e na qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde (QVRS) em estudantes universitários fisicamente inativos.
Metodologia: Um ensaio clínico randomizado com desenho duplo-cego de grupos paralelos incluiu 26 estudantes universitários divididos em um grupo de Yoga (GJ, n=13) e um grupo controle (GC, n=13). O GJ completou doze sessões de KY durante seis semanas (duas por semana). As avaliações incluíram o consumo máximo de oxigênio (VO₂pico) e o questionário SF-36 HRQoL. Uma análise de medidas repetidas avaliou o efeito da interação tempo×grupo com análise post-hoc (alfa = 0,05).
Resultados: Foram observadas melhorias significativas no GJ para o VO₂pico relativo (∆=3,21; d=0,66) e absoluto (∆=173,07; d=0,40) e desempenho no teste de esforço máximo (∆=12,31; d=0,34). O GJ apresentou melhorias significativas na dimensão geral de saúde da QVRS (∆=20,0), função física (∆=5,0) e comportamento geral (∆=12,9), enquanto o GC melhorou apenas na função física (∆=5,0).
Discussão Os resultados sugerem que o KY proporciona maiores melhorias na ACR e melhorias comparáveis ​​na QVRS em comparação com outros estilos de yoga, mesmo dentro de um período de intervenção mais curto. KY parece eficaz como intervenção de promoção da saúde.
Conclusões: Doze sessões de KY durante 6 semanas melhoraram significativamente a ACR e a QVRS em estudantes universitários fisicamente inativos. Um programa KY é recomendado para indivíduos fisicamente inativos que desejam adotar um estilo de vida ativo e melhorar sua ACR e QVRS.
