Basic psychological needs play an important role in the process and formation of students. The objective of this study was to analyze the satisfaction of basic psychological needs in middle and high school physical education students during the Covid-19 pandemic. A descriptive, comparative and correlational study was carried out with the participation of 2003 secondary and high school students from the central and northern states of Mexico, with an average age of 14.80 years (SD= 1.68). The KMO test (.935) and Bartlett's sphericity test obtained adequate and significant values (p<.01). The reliability analysis of the ESNPB questionnaire shows an alpha for satisfaction of .929, and for the three factors: social relations .945, autonomy .907, and competence .836. The confirmatory factor analysis shows adequate goodness-of-fit indices (X2/gl= 5.4, RMSEA= .07, CFI= .98, NFI= .98). High school students and especially males have a higher satisfaction of basic psychological needs in physical education, obtaining a higher value than females (P<.05). Likewise, significant differences were found when comparing the factors related to educational level, where high school students obtain a higher value with respect to high school students (P<.05). The factors correlate positively and significantly (P<.01). It is concluded that the ESNPB-EF is valid and reliable in studies related to the satisfaction of basic psychological needs during online physical education classes in Mexico; likewise, it becomes an instrument of easy application for future research.
Key Words: social relations, competence, autonomy, physical education, covid-19.
