Andando no lugar: uma avaliação ecológica momentânea da atividade física e dos comportamentos sedentários entre idosos urbanos e rurais.

Resumo

Este estudo examina padrões de atividade física e comportamento sedentário em indivíduos com 65 anos ou mais na região da Beira Baixa, em Portugal, com o objetivo de identificar diferenças entre ambientes rurais e urbanos. Analisamos dados de 40 participantes, incluindo 19 residentes rurais (idade média = 74,7 anos, DP = 8,5 anos) e 21 residentes urbanos (idade média = 70,1 anos, DP = 5,2 anos), utilizando um estudo transversal retrospectivo complementado por um estudo avaliação ecológica momentânea para capturar o comportamento em tempo real. A análise temática revelou que ambas as coortes eram predominantemente sedentárias, especialmente em termos de consumo de televisão. As atividades físicas limitavam-se principalmente a tarefas como tarefas domésticas, jardinagem e caminhadas ocasionais, com interações sociais mínimas. Os participantes urbanos, em particular, relataram reunir-se com mais frequência com a família em casa e na vizinhança. Ambos os grupos utilizaram principalmente espaços internos e ruas próximas para atividades físicas. As nossas descobertas destacam a necessidade urgente de programas personalizados de actividade física aos fins-de-semana para melhorar o estilo de vida sedentário entre os adultos mais velhos, tanto nas zonas rurais como nas urbanas. Este estudo contribui para a literatura ao destacar as preferências específicas de tempo de lazer e os padrões de atividade dos idosos portugueses, fornecendo uma base para o desenvolvimento de intervenções adaptativas e adequadas à idade.
