Abstract

Introduction: the work of teachers involves emotional exhaustion, which puts their mental health at risk, and it is necessary to have adequate emotional training in order not to compromise their mental health.

Objective: based on the above, this study aims to design and apply an intervention program based on meditation techniques and to analyses the causal relationship between anxiety, depression and stress on resilience in future teachers.

Methodology: we proposed an experimental research with a non-equivalent control group with pretest-posttest measures in a sample of 147 trainee primary school teachers. Specifically, 76 participants formed the experimental group and 71 the control group. The intervention ran from January to May 2024. It consisted of 22 sessions. The instruments used for data collection were the DASS-21 and CD-RISC scales. A theoretical model consisting of eight variables was developed. Anxiety, depression and stress have an effect on persistence, tenacity and self-efficacy, control under pressure, adaptability and support networks, spirituality and control and purpose in life.

Results: the results obtained in the experimental group show that the intervention program implemented has led to a significant decrease in the causal relationships of anxiety, depression and stress on the different variables that make up resilience. A decrease in the reciprocal causal relationship of stress, anxiety and depression was also obtained in the experimental group.

Conclusions: it is affirmed that meditation is an effective tool in the care of the mental and emotional health of primary and infant education teachers.
