Abstract
The present work analyzes the current situation of research field on early literacy skills, with the
aim of helping to overcome the problems that children face in learning to read. For this purpose,
we first identify which are the main predictors and facilitators associated to a successful reading
acquisition. Next, we review the existing reading readiness tests published in Spain and in Anglo-
Saxon countries.
