Abstract

Introduction. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) should provide an opportunity to better develop the skills and abilities expected at degree level and provide master’s degree students with skilled training in ethical principles. The main aim of this paper is to provide a table of teachers’ rights and duties that may be used as a tool for training future teaching staff in their professional skills. Method. This is a descriptive research project that combines qualitative and quantitative methodology. Results. The table contains 50 rights and 73 duties, divided into five main sections: students, organisation of the institution, teaching profession, parents or tutors, and educational administration. Teaching staff have a responsibility in these areas, but they also have reciprocal rights based on their duties. Discussion. Both the teachers interviewed and the groups surveyed feel that rights and duties are important, at the very least, in training master’s degree students.
