The main objective of this review is to carry out an analysis, synthesis and integration of the results of the effects of the Pilates method exercises on physical function, limitations due to physical health problems (physical role) and body pain, evaluated with the SF-36 quality of life level scale. A search was carried out in the Pubmeb, PEDRo, Scopus, Scielo, Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar databases, identifying a total of 170 articles. After carrying out the selection, eligibility, and inclusion processes, ten articles were selected. In relation to physical function, statistically significant changes are observed in seven of the ten studies and the average size of the effects can be considered medium (Cohen's d= 0.71 [95% CI: 0.45 to 0.98 ]) and in relation to limitations due to physical health problems and bodily pain, statistically significant changes are observed in five of the ten studies, the average size of the effects can be considered medium (limitations due to physical health problems Cohen's d = 0.78 [95% CI 0.51 to 1.05]; body pain Cohen's d = 0.59 [95% CI 0.30 to 0.89]). Based on these results, Pilates exercises are an efficient form of physical therapy and moderately improve quality of life related to physical function and its limitations.
Keywords. Pilates, Quality of Life Questionnaire SF-36, quality of life, physical function, physical role, body pain.
