Contribuciones del modelo Teaching Games for Understanding a la motivación y necesidades psicoló-gicas básicas del alumnado (Contributions of Teaching Games for Understanding model to student motivation and basic psycho-logical needs)

Resumen

La motivación hacia las clases de Educación Física es un aspecto clave y profundizar sobre el conocimiento de los factores que inciden sobre la misma ofrece claves al profesorado para introducir cambios en su labor docente. Este trabajo analiza, desde una aproximación metodológica mixta, cómo afecta el modelo Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) sobre la motivación y las Necesidades Psicológicas Básicas (NPB) de alumnado de 1º de la ESO. En el estudio participaron n=74 bajo una intervención con el modelo TGfU y n=77 bajo una intervención siguiendo un modelo tradicional. Se administró la Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale a la que se le añadieron los cinco ítems de satisfacción de la necesidad de novedad de la Novelty Satisfaction Scale y la segunda versión de la Perceived Locus of Causality Scale para medir los diferentes tipos de motivación y las NPB. También se llevaron a cabo grupos de discusión para conocer las vivencias del alumnado sobre las variables de estudio. Los resultados mostraron un incremento de las cuatro NPB y diferencias a favor en el grupo de intervención, además de un incremento de la motivación intrínseca, integrada e identificada y un descenso de la motivación externa y la desmotivación. Por otro lado, se encontró correlación de los cambios en la autonomía y la novedad con los cambios en la motivación intrínseca, identificada e introyectada, así como entre los cambios en la relación y los cambios en la motivación intrínseca. Los hallazgos encontrados en los grupos de discusión apoyaron los resultados obtenidos a nivel cuantitativo y ayudan a comprender los cambios.

Abstract. Motivation is a key aspect in Physical Education classes, and it provides an in-depth knowledge of the factors that affect it. Moreover, motivation offers teachers keys to introduce changes in their teaching work. This study used a mixed methodological approach to analyse how Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) model affects the motivation and basic psychological needs (BPN) of students in the first year of secondary education. The study enrolled 74 and 77 students under a TGfU intervention group and a traditional intervention group, respectively. The Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale adding the five items of satisfaction of the need for novelty from the Novelty Satisfaction Scale and the second version of the Perceived Locus of Causality Scale were administered to measure the different types of motivation and BPN. Focus groups were also carried out to find out the students' experiences of the study variables. The results showed an increase in the four BPN and differences in favour of the intervention group, as well as an increase in intrinsic, integrated and identified motivation, and a decrease in external motivation and demotivation. On the other hand, correlations were found between changes in autonomy and novelty and changes in intrinsic, identified and introjected motivation, as well as between changes in relatedness and changes in intrinsic motivation. The findings found in the focus groups supported the results obtained at the quantitative level and helped to understand the changes.
