Environmental issues after 50 years of urban planning in Spain: a review of urban planning codes

Fifty years of urban planning in Spain allow for assessments based on numerous interpretative keys. A reading from an environmental perspective is essential, given the importance of this variable in the quality of life in our towns and cities and the challenges we face in the context of global change in its multiple dimensions. Has urban planning in Spain evolved towards environmental sustainability? Answering this question is a complex task. In this article, we contribute to the critical reflection on the -environmental evolution- of urban planning, primarily through the analysis of existing urban planning codes, seeking milestones related to soft law and assessing their sensitivity to the incorporation of new terms and tools related to environmental issues.
