Abstract

Infection of the urinary tract is the most frequent of nosocomial infections (representing between 23% and 30% of infections acquired during hospital stays). Vesical cathetism (VC) is the most influential factor for the development of a urinary infection. The adoption of specific measures of prevention and control could bring a 30% reduction in infectious complications due to this instrument. On the basis of the epidemiology of these processes, details are given of the activities to be carried out for the prevention, diagnosis and control of nosocomial infection associated with vesical cathetism.
