À medida que videogames competitivos, esportes eletrônicos ou eSports ganham relevância no campo esportivo, surgem questões sobre qual é a forma mais eficiente de se regular, tanto como esporte quanto como modelo de negócios, representando um amplo leque de oportunidades. estudar esta área a partir de sua regulamentação legal. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar os balanços e perspectivas da propriedade intelectual nos esportes eletrônicos ou eSports, com especial ênfase nos direitos de transmissão e retransmissão na Internet, e no modelo de negócios da Fórmula 1. A metodologia escolhida pelos autores foi a análise documental, apoiada por uma interpretação sistemática da normativa vigente. Como resultados, são apresentadas algumas reflexões que mostram que os eSports representam um modelo de negócio que ainda está em processo de aperfeiçoamento, atrelado à dinâmica que a Internet traz.
