Resumo

O exercício é uma das intervenções não farmacológicas mais promissoras atualmente para prevenir ou reduzir o declínio cognitivo associado a doenças neurodegenerativas ou ao envelhecimento. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar o efeito de um programa de treino funcional de alta intensidade (HIFT) na qualidade de vida, qualidade do sono, estabilidade e níveis de depressão numa população colombiana de idosos com défice cognitivo ligeiro (DCL). Para tal, foi realizado um ensaio clínico randomizado controlado com uma amostra de 162 idosos com DCL. O grupo intervenção (GI) recebeu tratamento com HIFT durante 12 semanas, 3 vezes por semana, enquanto o grupo controlo (GC) recebeu recomendações gerais de atividade física e realizou atividades manuais. Observou-se que, após a intervenção, houve uma melhoria significativa do GI em comparação com o GC na qualidade de vida em múltiplos domínios (p < 0,05), qualidade do sono (p < 0,001), estabilidade postural (p < 0,001) e depressão (p < 0,001). A análise multivariada de covariância mostrou influência da idade e dos níveis de comprometimento cognitivo (MEEM) nos resultados. Este estudo demonstra que a implementação de um programa HIFT curto tem um efeito positivo na qualidade de vida, qualidade do sono, estabilidade e níveis de depressão em idosos com DCL.
