“Mais Educação Física”: Análise Crítica do Discurso Biomédico Predominante nas Notícias da Imprensa

Resumo

Por que são necessárias mais horas de educação física (EF) por semana? Esta exigência histórica dos professores de EF não passou despercebida aos meios de comunicação social, mas que mensagem está a ser transmitida? Para responder a esta questão, foram propostos dois objectivos de estudo: (1) examinar sistematicamente o conteúdo das notícias que apareceram nos principais meios de comunicação espanhóis em relação ao aumento das horas de EF, e (2) analisar criticamente os argumentos e o discurso subjacente em favor do aumento das horas de EF no sistema educacional. Um total de 24 reportagens de imprensa preencheram os critérios de inclusão para posterior análise aprofundada. Os resultados revelaram que o conteúdo principal focou na atividade física e na saúde como os principais motivos que justificaram o aumento das horas de EF. Estes resultados revelam a existência de um discurso biomédico subjacente predominante (valor extrínseco), deslocando as evidências que sustentam o contributo da EF para o desenvolvimento das componentes sociais, afetivas, emocionais e pessoais (valor intrínseco). Sugere-se transmitir à sociedade uma visão mais abrangente e profunda da importância da EF, com uma mensagem pública que incorpore mais evidências disponíveis do ponto de vista educacional, psicossocial e de crescimento pessoal. Isto poderia ajudar a ressituar o verdadeiro estatuto e importância da EF na vida de crianças e adolescentes, bem como as suas consequências positivas na idade adulta posterior, para além da prevalência popular mais focada na perspectiva fisiológica do movimento humano.
