Dinámicas de género en el uso de videojuegos: patrones de uso, control parental, motivaciones y efectos en adolescentes españoles

Resumen

Introducción: El uso de videojuegos en adolescentes ha captado la atención de investigadores por su impacto en el desarrollo y los comportamientos sociales. Las diferencias de género en el compromiso con los videojuegos y el control parental sugieren la necesidad de intervenciones adaptadas.

Objetivo: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo examinar los patrones de uso de videojuegos, las motivaciones, el control parental y el uso problemático entre adolescentes españoles de 12 a 20 años, explorando diferencias específicas por género para identificar áreas clave para intervenciones dirigidas.

Metodología: Se llevó a cabo un estudio basado en encuestas en una muestra de 2567 adolescentes españoles (M=14.89; SD=1.90), evaluando sus hábitos de juego, el control parental sobre estos, las motivaciones para jugar y los indicadores de uso problemático.

Resultados: Los resultados mostraron diferencias significativas según el género: los adolescentes varones presentaron una mayor implicación en los videojuegos, dedicando más tiempo y dinero y participando en juegos de azar en línea, lo que se asoció con mayores tasas de juego problemático. Las adolescentes, en cambio, reportaron niveles más altos de supervisión y control parental en sus actividades de juego.

Discusión: Estos hallazgos coinciden con estudios previos que sugieren que los adolescentes varones tienden a participar de forma más intensa en videojuegos y juegos de azar, mientras que las mujeres experimentan una mayor vigilancia parental. Las diferencias de género resaltan motivaciones y dinámicas sociales distintas en el uso de videojuegos entre adolescentes.

Conclusiones: Este estudio subraya la importancia de desarrollar intervenciones adaptadas al género para fomentar prácticas de juego saludables en adolescentes, abordando los riesgos asociados al juego excesivo de manera efectiva y según las necesidades específicas de cada género.

Dr. María Dolores Dapía Conde is Professor and Director of the Department of Analysis and Psycho-socio-educational Intervention at the University of Vigo. Her research focuses on social education, with a particular focus on socio-educational intervention with young people and lately also with the elderly. She has published numerous articles in scientific journals and has directed several Final Degree and Master's Degree Projects. She is also a member of the Spanish Society of Gerontology and has contributed significantly to the development of programs of socio-cultural animation and education in values in educational and community contexts.

Dr. José María Faílde Garrido is Professor in the Department of Analysis and Psychoeducational Intervention at the University of Vigo. He obtained his PhD in Psychology from the University of Santiago de Compostela. His research encompasses mental health, health psychology and psychosocial well-being, with a particular focus on the prevention and treatment of psychological disorders. He has published widely in prestigious scientific journals and has directed multiple nationally and internationally funded research projects. In addition, he is a member of the Spanish Society of Gerontology. He has been recognized with several awards for his significant contributions in the field of health psychology

Millán Brea-Castro is Associate Professor at the University of Vigo, within the Department of Psycho-socio-educational Analysis and Intervention. He has extensive teaching experience, teaching courses in areas such as socio-labor education, socio-educational intervention in family contexts and contemporary educational theories and institutions. Dr. Brea-Castro is actively involved in the academic community, contributing to various master's and bachelor's degree programs. His research interests include educational methods, social pedagogy and youth dnamization strategies, he has extensive training in video games and his contributions have improved the effectiveness of socio-educational practices

Dr. Paula Rodríguez Rivera is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Vigo. She specializes in game studies and cultural analysis. Currently affiliated with UVigo, her research explores digital media, identity formation and participatory culture within gaming communities. Her work investigates how digital games serve as sites of cultural production and negotiation. Her interdisciplinary approach combines media studies, cultural anthropology, and digital humanities to critically analyze the changing landscape of games. Through her research, Paula aims to deepen understanding of how games reflect and influence contemporary social dynamics, with an emphasis on digital media's role in shaping cultural identities.
