The family changes in Spain in recent decades have generated a fruitful theoretical and empirical debate on the new family forms. Based on the findings of international studies on attitudes and family values, the main objective of the present study is to carry out an exhaustive scientific literature review about the family models in Spain in order to offer a proposal of the theoretical models that could contribute to the empirical future analysis. The discussion is based on the critical reflection on the normative foundations that explain the ambivalent coexistence of two family models. On the one hand, the traditional care model and, on the other hand, the dual earner (care responsibility of both man and women) family model. This coexistence takes place in a social context of poor institutional support to the more egalitarian family model.Downloads
