After having demonstrated, in a recent study, that adoleo (‘to burn’), aboleo (‘to abolish’) and deleo (‘to destroy’) are compounds of alo (‘to breed, suckle’), we consider here the lexemic group of alesco (‘to grow up’), for it also have preverbal compounds that have not been correctly recognized. We analyse the disarrangements produced in both groups and the false etymological associations that they have originated; in particular, we reject the common opinion that obsolesco (‘to lose vigour’) belongs to the family of soleo and we reinstate it in the group of alesco. Finally, we briefly review the presence of this lexical family in Spanish.
