La agencia de Taiwán: la primera línea en la rivalidad Estados Unidos-China

Desde una perspectiva histórica, este artículo analiza cuáles son los principales límites y fuentes de la agencia y la autonomía de Taiwán en su política económica exterior, en un contexto de no-soberanía debido a la «política de una única China». En medio de la rivalidad estratégica Estados Unidos-China, Taiwán utiliza los sectores punteros de su economía nacional para forjar y consolidar una red de alianzas tanto a nivel regional como internacional. Para ello, su principal herramienta es la institucionalización de la relación bilateral con sus distintos aliados a través de acuerdos económicos, los cuales ilustran los límites de su agencia y de la voluntad política de sus aliados. No obstante, en plena tendencia global hacia la seguridad económica y la autonomía estratégica, Taiwán ha diseñado, desde una estrategia de «diplomacia inteligente», soluciones innovadoras y flexibles para promover sus intereses regionales y su política comercial exterior.
