The Atlantic Basin is becoming a central scenario for globalization and, as such, it deserves the same attention as the emerging Pacific area. Within the Atlantic space, there are growing links in the fields of energy, commerce, human security, norms, values and other issues related to the ocean itself. As interdependency relations grow through this basin, new opportunities emerge, but also new vulnerabilities affect its interlinking societies. With more and more urgent common problems, Atlantic states and regions are seeking with renewed interest their counterparts in all shores of the ocean. The aim of this issue is to shed light on these processes, not very explored yet. In order to do so, we count on the contribution of authors from different shores of the Atlantic who, from a wide range of theoretical and empirical orientations, analyse the consequences of the current changes and transformations within the Atlantic space.
