Corea del Sur ante la competencia China-Estados Unidos: estrategia y límites de una potencia intermedia

Análisis de la evolución de la política exterior surcoreana ante la intensificación de la competencia estratégica entre China y Estados Unidos. Desde una perspectiva realista neoclásica, examina las estrategias desplegadas por las administraciones de Lee, Park, Moon y Yoon (2008-2025), considerando tanto los condicionantes sistémicos como los factores domésticos que median sus decisiones. El estudio muestra que Seúl ha desarrollado instrumentos propios de potencia intermedia –diplomáticos, económicos y discursivos– que han elevado su perfil global en ámbitos como la diplomacia sanitaria, la tecnología y el desarrollo. Pero ello no ha cristalizado en una estrategia coherente de potencia intermedia. El entorno regional de seguridad restrictivo ha reducido el margen para la «ambigüedad estratégica», especialmente en sus relaciones con Estados Unidos y China. La política exterior surcoreana refleja la tensión estructural entre la ambición de proyectarse internacionalmente y las limitaciones impuestas por este entorno regional.
