Impacto do COVID-19 nas motivações de uso em videogames mexicanos: comparação de dois estudos transversais

Resumo

A pandemia do COVID-19 tem causado mudanças na interação social em diversos momentos e países, bem como nas atividades realizadas no lazer. No caso dos videogames, são relatadas mudanças quanto ao seu uso; com poucas informações sobre suas diferenças com os tempos anteriores à pandemia. Este estudo comparou as motivações para o uso e sua relação com comportamentos pró-sociais de dois estudos transversais, um realizado antes da pandemia de COVID-19 e outro pesquisado durante o isolamento no México. E testa uma hipótese sobre o comportamento pró-social como motivo para o jogo. Um total de 98 adultos participaram de uma pesquisa online, homens e mulheres mexicanos com idades entre 18 e 43 anos, agrupados em duas amostras de 49 pessoas cada. Foi utilizada a breve bateria de personalidade pró-social, bem como os questionários de motivação de jogos online e os usos e gratificações dos videogames. As análises realizadas mostram que existem diferenças nas motivações do jogo ao comparar os grupos, principalmente, uma diminuição no uso competitivo, um aumento no seu uso para socializar e na busca por imersão nos ditos mundos virtuais. A hipótese não foi confirmada, mas indica uma relação positiva e significativa entre o comportamento pró-social e as motivações para o jogo. Conclui-se que na participação de videogames multiplayer durante o confinamento no México devido ao COVID-19, houve diferenças nas motivações para o uso, sendo o comportamento pró-social um fator associado.
