Complicando a vida – uma visão económica e financeira das redes de cartões amarelos e vermelhos das equipas de futebol espanholas

Resumo

Uma partida de futebol sem exibição de cartões amarelos ou vermelhos é muito rara nas competições profissionais. As sanções por mau comportamento dos jogadores têm implicações éticas para o bom funcionamento da competição. Por outro lado, as cartas estão relacionadas a fatores estratégicos do jogo e podem ter custos importantes para as equipes. O objetivo principal deste trabalho centra-se na análise das interações, padrões e determinantes das relações que ocorrem entre as equipas com base nas sanções disciplinares dadas e recebidas. Estudamos as temporadas da Liga Espanhola de Futebol Profissional de 2010/2011 a 2018/2019, utilizando análises de redes complexas. Consideramos o valor das transferências das equipes e o perfil do árbitro como fatores determinantes. A nossa principal evidência sugere que tem havido uma tendência decrescente no número de cartões exibidos nos jogos ao longo das temporadas, embora tenha havido uma receita estável proveniente de taxas para o organizador (RFEF). Identificamos também diferentes perfis de árbitros capazes de aumentar o número de cartões mostrados a algumas equipas específicas. Observamos também que equipes que normalmente disputam o mesmo ranking tendem a participar de partidas com maior número de cartas expostas, mas as semelhanças financeiras entre as equipes concorrentes não são tão significativas para explicar a agressividade/exposição nas partidas.
