Sinto-me em casa: uma análise da percepção de atletas imigrantes da África Oriental no Brasil

Resumo

O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a percepção de corredores de longa distância de origem leste africana sobre a recepção e hospitalidade proporcionada pelos atletas locais durante o período em que viveram e competiram no Brasil. Foi utilizada uma abordagem qualitativa, aproveitando fontes obtidas por meio de entrevistas realizadas pelos autores do estudo e pesquisa documental. Entre outras descobertas, constatou-se que existia uma distinção entre as relações pessoais e a posição de interesses profissionais entre atletas brasileiros e da África Oriental. Ou seja, embora os estrangeiros se sintam bem-vindos no Brasil, ao ingressarem na parte profissional, os atletas brasileiros manifestam descontentamento com a presença desses atletas estrangeiros no país. Os resultados das entrevistas e da análise documental apontam para uma contradição. Os corredores da África Oriental são considerados superestrelas do atletismo e admirados pelos corredores brasileiros. Porém, quando se trata de relações profissionais, os brasileiros se preocupam com perdas financeiras relacionadas a prêmios em competições com atletas africanos de alto rendimento.
