Efeitos do programa de exercícios físicos MIND&GAIT nos sintomas depressivos em idosos frágeis institucionalizados: um estudo piloto

O principal objetivo deste estudo foi analisar os efeitos do MIND&GAIT, um programa de exercício físico, nos sintomas depressivos em idosos frágeis institucionalizados. Através de um estudo piloto, participaram neste estudo trinta e cinco idosos portugueses frágeis (19 mulheres, 16 homens), com idade média de 83,45 ± 9,73 anos. Os participantes foram distribuídos aleatoriamente em um grupo experimental (n = 19) e um grupo de controle (n = 16). A intervenção baseou-se no MIND&GAIT, um programa de exercício físico para idosos frágeis. Os sintomas depressivos foram avaliados por meio do Inventário de Depressão de Beck (BDI-II) antes e após 12 semanas de intervenção.
Os resultados mostraram diferenças significativas nos sintomas depressivos entre o grupo experimental e o grupo controle após a intervenção. Os sintomas depressivos diminuíram no grupo experimental, enquanto os participantes do grupo controle tiveram um aumento significativo neste indicador após a intervenção. De uma forma geral, os idosos que participaram no grupo de intervenção melhoraram os sintomas depressivos e os idosos que não participaram no programa de exercício físico MIND&GAIT pioraram este indicador. Tendo em conta os resultados atuais, podemos concluir que este estudo piloto apresentou conclusões iniciais de que o MIND&GAIT poderá contribuir para a melhoria da sintomatologia depressiva nesta população. Este estudo produziu dados essenciais para a construção de ensaios clínicos randomizados subsequentes que possam ser realizados de forma eficaz e viável na comunidade.
