Abstract. The objective of this research was to analyze the most recent proposal of the International Olympic Committee for the engagement of youth in sports, the Youth Olympic Games – YOG. This is a bibliographic review research, which used Google Scholar databases, Portal de Busca Integrada – PBI from the University of São Paulo and the Olympic World Library linked to the International Olympic Committee as a source of consultation. The findings indicated that athletes' attention is mainly focused on sports activities, or those activities that have a direct impact on improving their performance. Athletes from different continents expressed unique perceptions about participating in the YOG, which ranged from the challenge of balancing a student and athlete career to the desire to leave the country to expand their sporting opportunities. This research did not intend to come to a conclusion about the impact of this event on athletes and spectators, but to perceive, through the diversity of notes, the contribution of YOG to the world sports scene.
