Parliamentary elites of Latin America: How has the profile of representation evolved?

This paper analyzes the evolution of the profile of representation and attitudes among Latin American legislators in the last three decades. With evidence from the Parliamentary Elites of Latin America Project
from the University of Salamanca (PELA-USAL), the present paper describes the characteristics and opinions of legislators, while highlighting both the main differences and similarities per country and time period. After having reconstructed the main socioeconomic and political changes of the last three decades, this research shows how the different cycles have influenced on the profile of representation. It is approached with a broad perspective, taking into account sociodemographic characteristics as well was what legislators think
and value in the scenario in which they operate.
