The literature on elites has focused on three great issues: the concentration of wealth or power, the cohesion of its leaders, and the reproduction in time of its members. The objective of this work is to shed light on the capacity for reproduction of business elites in Argentina to determine whether there was a process of consolidation or renewal of the acquired positions by the large local firms and their main executives in a context of economic instability. To find out, we analyzed the top 50 firms and their presidents from 1976-2015 We detailed the fundamental characteristics of this select group: their time on their job and the reasons for
the loss of their positions. The analysis reveals a failed process of reproduction: a minority of the business (26 %) and leaders (4 %) managed to perpetuate themselves over these four decades.
