The Profession of Sociology in the 21st Century: Strategies for Strengthening the Position of Sociologists in the Labour Market

This essay deals with the situation of sociologists in the complex system of professions. Some characteristics of the sociological profession now-adays are analyzed against the current situation in Spain. The analysis is used as a point of departure for developing a strategy for collective action between the academy and the professional domain of Sociology. Three elements are discussed in order to improve the participation of sociologists in the labour market: the codification of sociology work, the professional identity and the organization of university degrees.Downloads
