The legacy of functionalism. Theoretical limitations and ethnographic excesses
Keywords:
Sociology, anthropology, functionalism, theory, ethnographyAbstract
In the history of anthropology the functionalist school and later structural-functionalist marks a milestone in the development of modern anthropology. Often it is obviated that the descriptive quality of functionalist monographs and other pioneering contributions which announcing later currents have been obscured by the criticism of weak functionalist theoretical apparatus, inspired by sociology and political theory. Since they do the struggle between theory and ethnographic knowledge, providing a surplus of ethnographic information that is not explained, we propose that the contributions of functionalist authors continue to influence, theoretical and methodological, social anthropology.Downloads
