La creciente agencia de la Unión Africana en el sistema internacional

Este artículo analiza la creciente agencia de la Unión Africana (UA) en el sistema internacional y responde a la pregunta: ¿cómo ha conseguido África, en pleno siglo xxi, consolidarse como un actor importante en la jerarquía del poder mundial? Se plantea la hipótesis de que el éxito reciente del continente se debe a tres procesos: a) un incremento en sus recursos de poder como resultado de sus procesos recientes de estabilización, pacificación y desarrollo; b) la consolidación de África como un actor relevante del Sur Global; y c) la creación de la UA como un bloque político regional con influencia internacional. Estos tres fenómenos, coordinados por la UA, han permitido al continente situarse gradualmente en el centro de las actuales transformaciones geopolíticas globales. El artículo demuestra cómo esta organización ha logrado utilizar su agencia para aumentar su poder y mejorar su proyección internacional.
