Urban models versus generations of plans: 50 years of municipal planning in Spain (1975-2025)

This article deals with the recent history of municipal planning in Spain, interpreting it from a double dialectic: between the reformist approach and real estate expansion, and between the overall vision and the intervention by fragments, mediated in this period by the complexity of its regulatory framework, as well as by the evolution of the political, economic and social context. Through the characterisation and confrontation of a series of local urban planning trajectories, representative of different contexts and ranges of cities, the progressive dissolution of the generational logic in favour of different city models, constructed with equally diverse times and instruments, is noted. A heterogeneous yet dense panorama that undoubtedly belies the often-announced death of the plan.
