Abstract

Twenty-first century society has become known as the information and knowledge society, in which one of the most outstanding phenomena has been the huge introduction of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in all areas of our lives. However, the initiatives undertaken to support the work of the counsellor in secondary education centres are scarce. The possibilities offered by ICTs, especially the Internet, are far from fully exploited. The Database for School Counsellors (BDOE), developed with and as free software, accessible online at http://imp.act.uji.es/~amarzal/ bdoe, constitutes a reference documentary database of papers of interest for the areas of counselling and intervention in learning difficulties. It is mainly addressed to university students in Educational Psychology related areas and to counselling service practitioners. By focussing on what really interests experts from the perspective of daily experience, it covers particular situations, and facilitates access to the information generated in the teaching-learning process. Work done in the classroom is thus not lost and can be transferred to a wider sphere.
