Abstract

The Revised Perceived Locus of Causality in Physical Education Scale (PLOC-R) is a scale proposed in light of Self-Determination Theory for analyzing students' motivational regulations for basic education physical education classes. Objective: to translate and adapt cross-culturally, make available format online, identify and compare psychometric properties in print and online formats, and verify the ability to agree between data collected by both formats of the PLOC-R. Methods: The original scale was translated and adapted following international recommendations. The scale's online format was created using a web application and hosted on a specific website. A sample of students aged 12 to 18 years-old of both sexes from public and private schools in the city of Londrina, Paraná, was selected to identify psychometric properties and the ability to agree between data collected by both formats. Results: After minor changes identified in the translation process, a committee of experts considered that the translated version of the PLOC-R showed semantic, idiomatic, cultural and conceptual equivalences. Construct validity was confirmed through five subscales originally proposed. Theoretical model found met proposed criteria for both formats. Factor loadings ranged from 0.71 to 0.86 and Cronbach's alpha from 0.71 to 0.87. PLOC-R replication formatted in print and online models showed high agreement (Kappa ≥ 0.70 and ICC ≥ 0.76). Conclusion: The PLOC-R translated and adapted in the current study for use in print and online formats achieved similar psychometric performance. Furthermore, based on the degrees of agreement observed, it is concluded that, in general, data collected through print and online formats are comparable, thus enabling its application in future studies in Brazil.
