In the last twenty years, the interest for the social science analysis of territorial dynamics of culture has been growing and particularly its tendency for clustering. Most of today’s literature on the subject takes cultural clusters as a homogeneous type and focuses on aspects linked to their urban planning or economic impact. However, there is a growing awareness for the nature of the activity developed and the dynamics of interaction between cultural clusters. A comprehensive analysis of these two dimensions reveals the importance of distinguishing between four types of cluster: clusters of cultural industries, groups of cultural institutions, cultural districts and artistic scenes. This research will analyze how this typology allows us to differentiate between different cultural clusters present in the city of Barcelona and, thus, to understand why some clustering dynamics are more creative in cultural innovation.Downloads
