Abstract

This editorial provides a sociological examination of the October 2024 floods in Spain's Valencian Community, analyzing both their differential impact across social groups and institutional responses to risk management. Moving beyond conventional interpretations of natural disasters, we argue that these events must be understood as social phenomena, embedded within broader patterns of vulnerability and institutional capacity. This analysis calls for new frameworks that better integrate social dynamics and sustainability concerns in disaster response and prevention.
