Abstract

This paper has two aims. On the one hand, it analyzes the conception of politics included in Norbert Elias sociology. On the other hand, it examines the implications of this conception taking in account specific currents of political thought. In the first case, the conception of politics is reconstructed considering the eliasian reflection on knowledge and commitment-detachment dichotomy. In the second case, these implications are addressed in relation to liberal political thought, namely, on central postulates as liberty, individual and privacy. Methodologically, this paper is based on a critical reading of some central texts of Norbert Elias, which are complemented by relevant works associated to figurational-processual sociology and general contributions in the field of liberal political thought.
